We exist because only one NHL player is named Mike Smith.

Pregame pronunciation prep is paramount for any announcer or broadcaster. No player wants to score their first goal in the NHL and then hear the arena announcer mangle their name.

This site was created by, Pittsburgh Penguins public address announcer, Ryan Mill with the tremendous help of many of your favorite in-arena announcers from around the league.

We work tirelessly to ensure we post the latest and most accurate pronunciations. If there is a debate we prefer to go straight to the player to get clarification.

There are many cases where a player requests that their name be announced a very specific way. This preference may go against how the name is said in their native land. Their reasons range from wanting to “Americanize” their name, to family or personal preference. In all cases, we defer to the player.

Are we perfect? Of course not. If you are certain that we have a player’s name wrong, you can submit your correction here. We simply ask that you provide a source or two to support your claim.

Thanks for visiting. We hope this resource is a help.
